A local, long-time owner (30+ years) of this classic rang us up to see if we could help when he got into some serious rust problems while he was restoring his boyhood car.
Upon arrival at Classic Investments, it was very quickly realized that the door sills had almost completely rotted away and many of the panel gaps needed attention. We took on the work with our master fabricator at the helm and, using the frame as a jig for alignment, we were able to replace the sills to exact specifications. As this partial restoration nears completion it has been noted that the owner may be interested in Classic Investments completing a full restoration within our facility. When complete, this is sure to be a head-turning vintage roadster.
The owner of this MGA has decided to continue restorative work with us at Classic Investments. As of now, the body has been separated from the frame and placed on a hand-built dolly which will carry the shell through the final smoothing bodywork and painting of the car. The frame was completely cleaned, media blasted and powdercoated for the best longevity and appearance. All suspension parts and other components of the chassis and engine compartment were also blasted and powdercoated and the customer has asked to perform assembly of the chassis in his own facility. Once complete, he will return the rolling chassis to us for the “marriage” of body and frame. More decisions will then be made about the completion of this project. This is a very promising restoration and is sure to be a beautiful classic–holding the road as well as our gaze!
With the body finished in classic British Racing Green and both major sections of the car returned to the clients’ shop, he has began assembly of the rolling chassis with all the newly refurbished parts. Every piece of this car has been inspected, researched for originality in finishes and the highest level of care taken in applying those in every step of the process. We are looking forward to seeing the results of his labor and bringing this car back to our facility for the “marriage.” At that point, we will align and adjust all of the body panels to exact a proper fit from every one and carefully protect the exterior finish of the car so that work can commence on the interior and mechanicals.
