From 1957 to 1970, the Lancia Flaminia, in all of its variations, was the flagship of the Lancia marque. While the majority of the production coachbuilding belonged to Lancia’s favorite firms -Pininfarina and Superleggera Touring- a very few, very special cars were contracted with Zagato. 

The Pininfarina Coupe and Berlina were well appointed and practical cars, though they sacrificed some performance in the way of these comforts. The Touring cars (GT/GTL) fell into the middle ground and offered decent performance which was well suited to longer trips in good weather, befitting the otherwise lack-luster moniker – the addition of a convertible to the lineup was a classy interpretation which, to this day, remains desirable, especially in the 3-carb specification. When the Zagato Sport debuted, the sleek looking aluminum car was more “show” than “go” and it featured the standard 117bhp, 2.5L v-6. Few units were sold and a redesign was initiated. With the second attempt by Zagato, the Super Sport, there truly was no sacrifice between comfort and capability and the 146bhp, 2.8L 3-carb v-6 sped the slippery coupe to 130mph… in comfort.

The example offered here was recently found in a major Lancia collection on the east coast and was the very last of 150 Super Sport Zagatos ever produced. The beneficiary of an exterior cosmetic refresh, the interior of the car is extremely original and presents, to this day, in fantastic condition. Comfortable leather seats are clean, free of cracks and tears and appear to still hold the original dye. The carpets are nearly unworn and an immaculate dash sits before the occupants, proudly displaying 20,541km traveled before drawing the driver’s eyes to the more important figures. A unique panel was included in the rear seat area which provides access to the trunk without having to exit the vehicle. While admiring features like this, you may be amazed to see the condition of the rest of the upholstery and interior trimmings.

This car also features an extremely clean and tidy engine compartment. Underneath, a very solid and dry chassis holds it all together. Recent services have been performed by Classic Investments to ready this car for her next owner. With more historical research currently underway, the following has been passed down from the previous owner regarding the provenance:

A Euro spec car, 2150 was likely delivered to Switzerland where it remained until the mid 1990’s. Listed in an auction, a classic dealer in the San Francisco area placed the winning bid and had the car delivered to them, where it was soon made available to the public. A collector of Lancias quickly acquired the car and it was received among brethren around 1995, where it remained until now.
