David comes originally from England. He began his career serving in the Royal Air Force as an engineering apprentice. David has honed his skills since his early twenties to become a leader in the old school art of metal and aluminum fabrication. He has worked in a variety of metal engineering positions including; welding and machinist as well as an instructor (following in the footsteps of his father) at an engineering center for apprentice trainees.
In 1987 David moved with his family to the United States. He also brought with him a hobby and passion for working with classic cars. Since his arrival in the US, he has worked in the classic car restoration business as a master of his craft. David is, quite simply, the very best fabrication specialist in the Rocky Mountain region, if not the entire country.
Chris “Flash” Sauer
It was over 22 years ago that Chris began working in metal fabrication when, shortly after graduating high school, he moved to North Carolina and got his first position on a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team. Being a crew member in the top tier of NASCAR quickly led Chris to become one of the best metal fabrication specialists in the business. Over the course of those 22 years, Chris has had the honor of working for some of the most successful racing teams and drivers in the U.S., including Tony Stewart; Alan Kulwiki; Cale Yarborough; Roush; Melling; Team RedBull and Furniture Row Racing. Chris counts over 50 team wins during those years, including 2 championships and 2 wins at the Indianapolis Motor Speedways notorious Brickyard 400.
While it was Furniture Row Racing that brought Chris out to Colorado with his wife (a school principal in Erie, CO) and three boys, he eventually decided to expand his horizons once again and look for work in the restoration market. Having been a “front end specialist” in the racing world, Chris was responsible for managing the complex aerodynamics on some of the fastest circuit racers in the world. Dealing with complex angles and curvature in sheet metal is one of the most important aspects of the European restoration service that we provide at Classic Investments.
Chris also brings a passion for aviation to our team and he holds an FAA Private Pilot certificate. Self-described as having an interest in “anything racing,” Chris is eager to learn more about these rare and beautiful machines that Stephen brings in. He has an eye for detail and unrelenting drive for perfection in his work. Being able to see his craftsmanship on a completed restoration is something Chris looks forward to with great anticipation.
Dave has been doing body and paint work since he was 17. Starting off in his brothers custom restorations shop, he began by doing prep work but he soon realized his passion in this field and rapidly excelled under his brothers’ close watch as Dave learned the increasingly more advanced processes involved. Dave has now been doing exceptional body, paint and detail work for award winning vehicles for over 35 years, and he is widely known for being one of the best “blend work” painters in the region.
Dave met Stephen Bell through an acquaintance in 1993 and began working for him periodically while Steve was still operating out of his dirt floor garage. As Steve has grown his business, he has kept Dave Romero on as an essential part of the team to this day. Dave is so exceptionally passionate that he prefers not to even view his trade as “work.” For Dave, the passion is payment: the love of seeing something completed that is admired and cherished by others is what keeps him motivated.
Dave, also, shares and pursues an interest in music, singing and constantly learning to play new instruments such as bass, piano and drums. Dave also owns several vehicles that he is eagerly waiting to restore… when he can find the time!
